About Gold Bar Boulders
Gold Bar Boulders is the best bouldering near Seattle — sharp-featured granodiorite boulders (same rock as Index) scattered through 400 acres of second-growth forest off Reiter Road in the Skykomish Valley, about an hour northeast of the city. The area holds hundreds of problems from V0 to V13 across three main zones: the 5 Star Boulder and Grand Line at the lower pullout, and the sprawling Clearcut and Forest areas further up the gravel road. Classic problems include Doja (V6), The Method (V8), and Five Star Boulder (V6). Fall is prime — cool, dry air gives the best friction of the year — while the Forest zone can stay wet for weeks in winter and the Clearcut dries fastest. Washington Discover Pass required. Managed cooperatively by DNR, Access Fund, and the Washington Climbers Coalition.
