About Marine Drive (Great Orme)

Marine Drive (Great Orme) encompasses a diverse series of limestone cliffs positioned along the scenic toll road circuit. The Carboniferous limestone ranges from steep pocketed walls to massive overhangs and technical slab faces. Because sectors face multiple directions along the headland, climbers can select sun or shade throughout the day. The climbing includes a mix of hard traditional routes and extensive modern sport climbing across French 6th and 7th grades. Classic sport lines offer convenient, high-quality limestone climbing directly above the sea. The approach is extremely short, often taking under five minutes from roadside parking laybys along Marine Drive. Loose rock on uncleaned sectors and passing road traffic require constant vigilance.
