About Menagerie Wilderness
Menagerie Wilderness is a cluster of bizarre volcanic pinnacles in the western Oregon Cascades, an hour east of Sweet Home off Highway 20. Rooster Rock, Turkey Monster, Hen, Chicken, Rabbit Ear, and Rooter Tail are the named plugs — each with its own history, most reached by approach trails from the Rooster Rock or Trout Creek trailheads. Turkey Monster is a 350-foot volcanic plug wider at the middle than the base; Rooster Rock is the classic beginner tower. Expect bold routes, mossy rock, long runouts, some questionable bolts, and genuine solitude — this is adventure cragging, not a sport-climbing venue.
