Bird ban (02-01 to 07-31)
Bird ban applies to selected sectors within RSPB reserve; follow local signposts.
North Stack is an atmospheric coastal headland on Holyhead Mountain, featuring sheer cliffs of folded quartzite above the ocean. The rock character is extremely compact, offering steep face climbing, technical arêtes, and quartz hold features. Facing northwest, the cliff stays shaded until late afternoon, keeping temperatures cool while strong coastal winds help dry open surfaces. The route distribution focuses almost entirely on advanced multi-pitch traditional climbing, featuring famous lines such as The Strand and Wrath of Khan. Access requires a twenty-minute coastal walk from Holyhead Mountain parking followed by an abseil approach. Severe sea swells, tidal access restrictions, and loose rock on upper exit ramps demand full sea-cliff competence.
