About Otter Cliffs
Otter Cliffs is Acadia National Park's flagship sea-cliff crag — a 100-foot east-facing Cadillac Mountain Granite wall dropping straight into the Atlantic on Mount Desert Island's Ocean Drive. The pink coarse-grained granite is superb and the routes are rappel-in classics: Mountain Project's top ticks are The Great Chimney (5.5), The Flake (5.7), A Dare by the Sea (5.10b/c), Peak Performance (5.10a/b), and Guillotine (5.10a/b). East aspect and open Atlantic exposure keep the wall breezy and cool, but sea spray and tidal wash keep the base wet and "ropes will get soaked" per Mountain Project — treat seepage as medium not low. Acadia National Park entry pass required ($35/vehicle, $20/person, $30/motorcycle for 7 days as of 2026; park is cashless). The 2026 peregrine falcon closures at Acadia cover the Precipice, Jordan Cliffs, Valley Cove, and Penobscot East trails — Otter Cliffs is NOT closed. June through October is the practical season.
