About Pawtuckaway Boulders
Pawtuckaway State Park holds New Hampshire's most concentrated granite bouldering — hundreds of erratics scattered across North Mountain in Nottingham, an hour north of Boston. The glacially deposited granite is dense, high-friction, and durable, with problems from V-easy warm-ups to hard classics: Mountain Project's top ticks are Cream (V0+), Overlooked (V4), Land of Nod (V5), Ride the Lightning (V6), and Corner Passage (V7). Fisheye (V6) is another crag classic. Forest cover keeps the boulders shaded and cool through summer but also holds moisture — expect slow drying after wet spells. Blackflies and mosquitos are brutal June–August, so October through May is the pleasant season with prime friction in November and April. Main climber parking at 128 Mountain Road inside the park. Reservation Road access closes November through April so the winter approach is longer. NH State Parks self-pay day-use fee applies (iron ranger at the trailhead, current NH SP schedule: ~$4 resident / $6 non-resident). Don't block boat trailers at the Fundy Boat Launch (NH F&G land). No bird bans on the erratics.
