About Pilot Mountain

Pilot Mountain is a distinctive quartzite knob in Pilot Mountain State Park, Surry County NC. South-facing cliffs across slab, vertical and overhung terrain with several roofs — mostly top-roping with bolted anchors, some sport, trad and mixed. Register at the parking-lot kiosk (no permit required but registration expected). 14-person group size limit; commercial groups require a special-use permit. The Big Pinnacle is closed to climbing. The upper approach trail is closed — use the Grindstone Trail. Quartzite dries fast.
