Lower ledges submerged at high tide — climb 3h either side of low water.
Bird ban (02-01 to 07-31)
Bird ban applies to selected sea caves and buttresses; follow local notices.
Rhoscolyn offers sensational sea cliff climbing on the southern tip of Holy Island, composed of colorful schist and quartzite rock. The rock is highly featured with juggy breaks, sharp flakes, and positive wall holds above turquoise sea inlets. Facing southwest, the cliffs act as a sun trap and dry rapidly in ocean breezes, making winter climbing feasible on clear days. Grade options are varied, ranging from accessible Severe cracks to technical E-grade testpieces like Electric Blue and Symphony Crack. The approach involves a simple fifteen-minute walk along coastal footpath trails from Rhoscolyn church or beach car park. Tidal flooding of lower platforms and sudden Atlantic ocean swells represent the main safety hazards.
