About Rocklands — The Amphitheatre

A natural south-facing sandstone bowl on the upper Cederberg. South-facing and high, so cool even in warm spells; conversely it can stay cold and windy when the pass below is comfortable. Named after its amphitheatre-like shape. Home to a concentration of hard problems on some of the finest silica-cemented Cederberg sandstone anywhere — check the current guidebook or MP for specific route names as attributions vary between resources. Never climb on damp Cederberg sandstone — holds break and damage is permanent.
