About Rocklands — Pakhuis Plateau

The concentration of boulders on top of the Pakhuis Plateau — the tableland reached by a steep gulley walk-up of ~400 m from the pass below. Locals head up here on hot spring days for friction the lower boulders can't match. Exposed to weather in both directions: cloud sits on the Pakhuis Plateau while the pass below is sunny, and Cape winter fronts hit up here first. When it's dry, it's some of the best rock in Rocklands. Never climb on damp Cederberg sandstone.
