Quartz Light (E1 5b), The Clean Sweep (VS 4c), Black Hole (HVS 5a)","St. David's Head sits at the far western tip of Mainland Wales, offering rugged coastal climbing on ancient gabbro and igneous rock outcrop ridges. The rock character is exceptionally rough and high-friction, featuring steep slabs, blocky arêtes, and clean vertical crack systems. Facing west into the Atlantic Ocean, the headland catches maximum afternoon light and dries almost immediately after rain in strong sea breezes. The climbing consists of traditional wall and ridge climbs from Severe up to E-grades, with Quartz Light standing out as a classic testpiece. The approach requires a pleasant twenty-minute walk along the coastal path from Whitesands Bay car park. High exposure to Atlantic weather systems means conditions can be windy even on clear days.
