About Stainforth Scar

Stainforth Scar is a long limestone cliff rising above Stainforth village in the Ribble Valley. The rock quality is sound gray limestone with vertical faces, sharp crimps, and technical corner systems. Facing southwest, the crag catches afternoon sun and dries moderately fast on open upper walls, though lower tree lines retain dampness. The venue features a balance of traditional climbs and modern sport routes from Severe to E3 and 6a to 7b. Popular classics like Stainforth Wall test balance and edge power. Reach the crag via a ten-minute walk along public footpaths from Stainforth village car park. Loose rock on uncleaned upper tiers requires helmet precautions.
