About Stronachlachar

Stronachlachar is a scattered group of small schist crags and boulders on the steep wooded slopes of An Garadh, above the pier at the head of Loch Katrine. The rock is compact mica-schist with strong quartz veining, offering short sport routes and boulder problems on positive edges, side pulls, and clean cracks. Facing largely south across Loch Arklet, the crags are a genuine sun trap, and their sheltered aspect keeps them climbable through much of the year — the crag is often listed as a rare all-year Central Belt option. Grades cluster in the mid-range, with High Crag Corner, The Chasm, and The G-Spot the three named sectors most often visited. The approach is now improved by the new path linking Stronachlachar and Inversnaid; park in the layby opposite the water intake three hundred metres before the T-junction (never at the private cottages) and follow the path for fifteen minutes uphill.
