About Suisnish

Suisnish is a compact, sunny, south-facing sandstone crag on the Strathaird coast south of Torrin on Skye. Its main slab and adjoining pillar sit at sea level just above the normal high tide mark, and above on the hillside is the small buttress of Carn Dearg — together giving a chilled day of climbing well away from the crowds and complexity of the Cuillin ridge. The rock is hard Jurassic quartz sandstone with pockets, small edges, and clean cracks that dry quickly in the sea breeze. Facing south, the slab receives full sun through the day and the crag is one of the more reliable single-pitch venues on Skye when the mountains are in cloud. Access involves an hour's walk along a decent stalker's path from parking at Camas Malag on the Elgol road, past Suisnish Point and the cleared village ruins; the crag is well documented in the SMC Skye Sea-Cliffs guide.
