Bird ban (02-01 to 07-27)
Full-quarry closure for nesting peregrines including Terrace Wall. If fledging allows, restrictions may lift early — check BMC RAD.

About Warton Main Quarry

Warton Main Quarry is a large Carboniferous limestone quarry above Carnforth, mixing traditional lines on the Main Wall with a growing number of bolted sport routes on Terrace Wall (the upper tier) under a formal agreement with Lancashire County Council. The westerly aspect over Morecambe Bay gives afternoon sun and generally good drying, though deep crack lines hold seepage. Grade coverage runs from Diff to E5 on the trad side and lower-grade sport on the bolted terrace, with excellent views out over the bay. The peregrine ban is strict and covers the whole quarry from February 1 to July 27 each year (potentially lifting earlier if fledging is complete). An additional orchid closure protects the quarry floor beneath Main Wall from April to June. Approach is under ten minutes from the roadside parking at Crag Foot.
