About Achnasheen Crags

Achnasheen Crags are elevated schist outcrops perched above Strath Bran near Achnasheen in Ross-shire. The rock character is rough, highly-featured mica-schist with horizontal breaks, sharp crimps, and clean corner features. Facing south, the crag acts as a good sun trap and dries steadily in open valley winds, making it a useful stopover venue. The climbing focuses on traditional single and multi-pitch routes from Severe to lower E-grades, featuring classics like Achnasheen Wall. The approach takes roughly twenty minutes up open moorland hillsides from parking laybys along the A832. Substantial bracken cover in late summer and boggy ground near the base are the main approach hazards.
