About Barberine (Vallorcine)

Grande-voie gneiss cliff on the Swiss–French border above Le Châtelard, 500m down-valley from Vallorcine — some sectors sit technically in the Finhaut commune (Valais) so pack a passport. South-facing sunny slabs with steeper sections higher up; routes 200–300m long and, despite the height, feel un-imposing because ledges, trees and grassy zones break every pitch. Impermeable gneiss so drying is fast once the wall sees sun. Approach 10–15 minutes from the hamlet along a marked path behind a house across meadows. Not climbable in rain. Overhead high-tension power lines and the nearby road are the only aesthetic downsides — otherwise one of the finest multi-pitch venues on the Chamonix side.
