About Col des Montets — bouldering

The most popular bouldering venue in the Chamonix Valley — hard gneiss blocks scattered across the pastureland at the top of the Col des Montets pass, two minutes from the road, inside the Aiguilles Rouges National Nature Reserve. Access restricted to 1 June – 1 October by reserve rule (respect the wooden gate and marked paths). Around 50 problems from meadow warm-ups at 3 to Le Transat's proud top-out at 7c. French side is sunny 10:30–16:30; the Swiss side across the road has a small overhanging central boulder that stays climbable in light rain. High altitude and the open pass mean strong wind exposure — dries very fast when it's blowing, but morning condensation is common on still, humid summer days.
