About Big Bend Boulders

Big Bend Boulders is Moab's most convenient bouldering venue — 16+ Wingate sandstone boulders sitting ~20 feet from Highway 128 (River Road), 8.1 miles north of town past Big Bend Campground. Developed in the 80s and 90s by John Sherman, Dan Osman, Tom Gilge, Noah Bigwood, and Eric Decaria. Widely regarded as sandbagged: 'many V0s and V1s will feel hard for the grade'. Standard 48h wet-Wingate rule strictly enforced — Mountain Project and the local community are explicit that the rock will break when wet and problems have been permanently damaged; MP's minimum is 24h, community practice matches the desert 48h ethic. Watch for cryptobiotic soil around the boulders — stay on established rock and trails.
