About Bramcrag Quarry

Bramcrag Quarry is a major developed sport climbing venue located in St. John's in the Vale, offering smooth, quarried volcanic rock faces. Facing west, the quarry walls capture afternoon sun and dry very rapidly after rain, though lower floor areas can stay damp in winter. The venue provides hundreds of fully bolted sport climbs spanning from French 4 through to upper 7s, characterized by technical face climbing on small crimps and edges. Popular routes like Calypso draw large numbers of sport climbers from across northern England. The approach takes under ten minutes along a simple flat track leading directly from the car parking area. Loose rock can exist on unbolted upper quarry rims, requiring care when lowering off.
