About Fishercrag

Fishercrag is a delightful, low-altitude outcrop hidden in the woodland above Thirlmere reservoir, offering fine volcanic rock with rich friction. Facing west, the crag catches warm evening sunlight and dries quickly after rain thanks to open canopy clearing. The cliff hosts a rich collection of low-to-mid grade traditional routes that feature positive holds, steep grooves, and reliable protection slots. Classics like Gimlet and Expectancy provide excellent climbing on clean, firm rock. The approach is a pleasant ten-to-fifteen minute walk uphill through forestry paths from the Thirlmere roadside parking areas. Tree cover keeps the base sheltered from strong winds, though midges can gather on still summer evenings.
