Burrington Combe is a prominent limestone gorge cutting through the northern flank of the Mendip Hills near Blagdon. The rock character consists of Carboniferous limestone forming steep crags, pinnacles, and broken walls with sharp crimps, vertical cracks, and technical slab features. Facing both north and south across the opposing sides of the gorge, aspect varies, allowing climbers to choose between sun or shade throughout the day. The venue provides a varied selection of traditional routes and bouldering problems from Moderate up to lower E-grades, highlighted by Rod's Arete. The approach is extremely simple, taking under five minutes from various roadside car parks along the B3134. Traffic noise from the gorge road directly below and friable holds on lesser-climbed buttresses warrant care.
