About Fairy Cave Quarry

Fairy Cave Quarry is a large disused limestone quarry situated near Oakhill in the eastern Mendip Hills. The rock character consists of massive, quarried Carboniferous limestone slabs, sharp vertical crimps, technical corners, and delicate friction faces. Facing multiple directions across its spacious quarried bays, the venue offers sunny and shaded sectors throughout the day, drying at a moderate pace after rain. The crag is a popular traditional climbing destination featuring clean, technical slab and wall climbs from Severe to E-grades, headlined by benchmark testpieces like Glutton and The Finger. The approach takes five to ten minutes along flat quarry paths from local roadside parking areas. Climbers should be aware of sensitive bat conservation roosts in adjacent cave entrances and take care on untested quarry rims.
