About Covesea Lighthouse Crag

Covesea Lighthouse Crag sits directly on the Moray coastline near Lossiemouth, offering attractive red sandstone cragging below the iconic lighthouse. The rock character features fine-grained, high-friction sandstone with horizontal breaks, clean pockets, and vertical crack lines. Facing north onto the Moray Firth, the cliff remains in the shade for most of the day but benefits from ocean breezes that dry the rock quickly after showers. The climbing provides a mix of low-to-mid grade trad routes and select sport lines, headlined by Covesea Corner. The approach takes ten minutes along the sandy beach from the Covesea Lighthouse visitor parking area. Non-tidal platforms allow easy access, though high sea swells can send spray onto lower sections.
