Cummingston is one of Moray's most popular coastal climbing venues, offering high-quality red sandstone sea cliffs and free-standing stacks. The rock character is smooth, fine-grained, and remarkably friction-rich, featuring horizontal breaks, round pockets, and technical finger cracks. Facing north directly onto the Moray Firth, the cliff stays in the shade for much of the day, though ocean breezes ensure the rock dries surprisingly fast after showers. The climbing offers a rich mix of traditional routes and bouldering options from Moderate to hard E-grades, led by classic lines such as Gorgon and Sidle. Access involves a quick five-minute walk along an old railway track and pebble beach from the Cummingston village parking area. While the main walls are non-tidal, care is required on the tidal approach to the outer stacks during high swell.
