Untelchaig provides accessible granite and gneiss cragging set on the open hillsides above Strathnairn near Inverness. The rock character consists of firm, clean edge-dominated faces, sharp cracks, and positive horizontal breaks that take standard wire and cam placements well. Facing due south, the crag catches all available sunlight and dries very rapidly after rain, benefiting from open valley winds. The grade range is centered predominantly around mid-grade traditional routes from Severe to lower E-grades, headlined by classic lines like Diedre and Black Panther. The approach takes roughly fifteen to twenty minutes along hillside paths starting from the minor road near Loch Ruthven. Ticks in the surrounding bracken and heather during early summer are the main considerations for visitors.
