About Ruthven Boulder

Ruthven Boulder is a prominent schist bouldering block situated on open moorland overlooking Strathspey near Kingussie. The rock character offers immaculate mica-schist with crisp crimps, sloper mantels, and clean compression edges. Facing multiple aspects on its distinct faces, boulderers can select sunny or shaded problems throughout the day. Grade options run from friendly 5th grade warm-ups to physical 7th grade roof problems, with Ruthven Arete attracting regular attention. Access is straightforward, taking five to ten minutes across open heather moorland from parking near the Ruthven Barracks. Wet moorland paths after heavy rain make sturdy footwear recommended.
