About Hawkswick Clowder

Hawkswick Clowder is a series of quiet limestone outcrops scattered high on the hillside above Hawkswick in Littondale. The rock is solid gray limestone with water-worn grooves, sharp pockets, and neat vertical seams. Facing south with broad valley views, the crag catches maximum sunlight, though lower turf ledges take time to dry after wet weather. The climbing is traditional and quiet, appealing to climbers seeking mid-grade routes between Severe and E2. Standout classics like Clowder Wall offer fine movement on sound limestone. Access involves a steady 20-minute uphill hike from Hawkswick village laybys. The peaceful, agricultural nature of the site requires careful gate management and respect for livestock.
