About Hueco Tanks — East Mountain
East Mountain is Restricted Access: climbing is guided-access only, via a commercial guide (companies like Wagon Wheel and Hueco Tanks Guides run daily tours), a park volunteer guide, or a ranger-led interpretive/pictograph tour. Tours are capped at 10 people and the guide requirement protects the archaeological sites while thinning traffic — expect a small group with a set itinerary rather than free-range wandering. Rock character is the same coarse syenogranite as North Mountain and dries just as fast in the desert climate. Book guides well ahead of the November-February peak season; December-January weekdays are the sweet spot for cool temperatures and quieter tours.
