About Hueco Tanks — West Mountain
West Mountain is Restricted Access — guided access only (commercial guide, park volunteer, or ranger-led tour), same rules as East Mountain. Fewer superstar hard testpieces than North or East Mountain but a spectacular density of pockmarked mid-grades on the same Precambrian syenogranite, with Round Room Traverse the mega-classic warm-up of the whole park. Slightly higher in altitude than North (~1420m vs 1400m) but weather is effectively identical — this whole massif is one desert cell. Guide companies typically bundle West and East Spur into single-day itineraries in the calmer, quieter far corners of the park.
