Repulsion (6c+), Portland Bill (6a+), Battleship (7a), Slang (6b+)","Isle of Portland (Promenade & Battleship) features world-class limestone sport climbing along the towering west coast of the island. The rock is compact, fine-grained Portland limestone featuring technical slab pockets, sharp micro-crimps, sustained vertical walls, and athletic overhangs. Facing west over Lyme Bay, the crag stays shaded during morning hours before catching full afternoon sun, drying almost immediately after rain in open coastal breezes. The climbing is almost exclusively sport-focused, offering hundreds of bolted routes from 5c to 8a+, with benchmark classics like Repulsion and Battleship drawing climbers nationwide. The approach involves a ten-to-fifteen minute walk along coastal paths from the West Cliff or Tout Quarry parking areas. Non-tidal access allows flexible sessions, though strong westerly winds can make conditions tough.
