About Plum Buttress (Chee Dale)

Plum Buttress is an iconic, sheer limestone wall located deep within the limestone canyon of Chee Dale. The rock is smooth, high-quality white limestone featuring razor-sharp crimps, thin cracks, and immaculate technical face features. Facing south, it catches good midday sun above the tree line, which helps the main wall dry relatively quickly once seepage stops after wet spells. The crag is celebrated for pumpy, technical trad classics alongside a select number of sport routes, predominantly in the VS to E5 grade range. The title line Plum stands as one of the finest E1 trad routes in the entire Peak District. Access requires a 15-minute hike along the Chee Dale stepping-stone path from Miller's Dale station. Access relies entirely on low river levels, as high water floods the gorge path leading to the crag.
