About Servoz

40m layered schist wall at the exit of Servoz on the old road towards Chamonix — a stepped, easy-angled lower section with a slightly overhanging upper part. Roadside parking and a bar-restaurant opposite make it the classic school and family venue, popular with instructors. Because it's schist the foliation planes hold water, so the wall stays greasy longer after rain than the surrounding gneiss and granite crags — trust the drying model here more than at Gaillands. West-facing means morning shade and afternoon sun. Popular fallback when the higher Chamonix crags are still damp: 8km down-valley at 800m the microclimate is often milder in shoulder seasons.
