About Stanage North

Stanage North comprises the northernmost stretch of England's premier gritstone edge, characterized by pristine gritstone walls and distinctive crack lines. Facing southwest, the crag receives maximum afternoon sunshine and dries almost immediately after rainfall, benefiting from constant air movement along the open crest. The climbing style focuses heavily on jams, laybacks, and delicate friction work across grades from Diff to high E-grades. Classic climbs such as Hargreaves Original Route showcase the finest trad protection and natural lines the area has to offer. Access requires a twenty-minute uphill walk from the northern road laybys near Stanage End. The primary consideration for visitors is the lack of shelter in bad weather due to its open hilltop setting.
