About The Book (Lumpy Ridge)
The Book is Lumpy Ridge's most-visited formation — a south-facing Silver Plume Granite buttress at the eastern end of the ridge, ten minutes from the Lumpy Ridge Trailhead outside Estes Park. The signature route is , a classic Colorado hand-and-fist splitter with a spicy runout traverse that is Lumpy's most-repeated 5.9. Fat City Crack (5.10c, three pitches) is the harder marquee; Loose Ends (5.9), Book Direct (5.10a), and Left Book (5.7) round out the tick list. Rock is Precambrian Silver Plume Granite (same 1.4-billion-year-old pluton as Longs Peak), riddled with vertical joint systems that make Lumpy's world-famous crack lines. Approach ~30 minutes from the trailhead. Free access — Lumpy sits outside RMNP's timed-entry fee zone. **Annual golden eagle and peregrine falcon closures typically run February 15 – July 31** on Book and nearby formations; check current status at nps.gov/romo. For per-route beta and topos, climbers reference Bernard Gillett's *Rocky Mountain National Park: The Climbers Guide*.
