About Twin Owls

Twin Owls are the iconic knobbed twin summits at the eastern end of Lumpy Ridge — a distinctive silhouette visible from all over Estes Park and the closest Lumpy formation to the trailhead (~15 minutes' walk). Some of Lumpy's best crack climbs live here on excellent Silver Plume Granite: is the notorious offwidth benchmark — one of Colorado's hardest classic wide cracks; **Wolf's Tooth (5.8+)** is a burly must-do crack. Pin Route (5.5) is the historic ascent line and includes the famous **Bowels of the Owls** descent — a chimney-and-tunnel scramble down the gap between the twin summits that is one of Colorado's most memorable route finishes. Tilted Mitten (5.8) is another crack classic. Shares Lumpy Ridge's weather cell with The Book (~500m away). Free trailhead access. **Annual raptor closures typically run February 15 – July 31** — Twin Owls often extended if a nesting pair chooses the summit.
