The Roaches Upper Tier sits high above the Lower Tier, forming a long crest of gritstone buttresses with panoramic views over Staffordshire. The rock is brilliant, weather-beaten gritstone with rich texture and clean features. Facing southwest, the Upper Tier catches all available daylight and dries extraordinarily quickly in the hilltop breeze. The climbing here is slightly shorter and less steep than the Lower Tier, offering a superb selection of slab, wall, and crack climbs across the lower to middle grades. Classic climbs like Right Route and Damascus Crack are firm favorites for visiting climbers. The approach involves a steep fifteen-minute hike up from the Lower Tier baseline. Exposure to harsh winds and cold conditions on the crest is the main element to factor into your visit.
