About Three O'Clock Rock
Three O'Clock Rock is Darrington's most popular slab dome — a compact quartz-diorite buttress off the Mountain Loop Highway, roughly ninety minutes north of Seattle. About thirty routes climb clean, high-quality granite slabs and cracks with a mix of bolts and traditional protection; runouts of 20–30 feet are common, so this is not a sport-climbing venue. Silent Running (5.9) and Total Soul (5.10c) are the classics that draw climbers back season after season. The northeast-facing wall gets sun roughly 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. in high season, making summer (July–September) the reliable window. Approach via the Eightmile Creek Trailhead — turn off the Mountain Loop Highway just past the Clear Creek campground and drive five to six miles up the gravel road. Northwest Forest Pass required.
