About Cob Rock

Cob Rock is one of Boulder Canyon's most beloved moderate multi-pitch crags — a large north-facing Boulder Creek Granodiorite buttress on the south side of the canyon at Mile 6.6, sitting just above Boulder Creek. About 28 trad routes plus 10 boulder problems on quality Precambrian granite, concentrated in the 5.7–5.10 range. Consensus classics are all moderates: Empor (5.7+) is Cob's signature route and one of Boulder Canyon's most-climbed multi-pitches; Northwest Corner (5.7), North Face Center (5.7), and Gorilla's Delight (5.9) round out the tick list. North aspect keeps the wall in shade all day — a summer refuge when the south-facing crags are baking, but cold in shoulder season. Wade or boulder-hop Boulder Creek to reach the base (impossible during spring runoff, easy in late summer through winter). Shares the Boulder Canyon Middle weather cell with Blob Rock and Bell Buttress (all within 2km). Roadside pull-off; USFS land, no fee.
