About Froggatt Edge

Froggatt Edge is one of the Peak District's most cherished gritstone escarpments, celebrated for its smooth slabs, classic cracks, and iconic overhangs. The rock is high-grade gritstone offering exceptional friction and clean lines. Facing southwest, the edge enjoys solar warmth from mid-morning onwards and dries almost immediately after rain due to continuous breeze along the crest. The crag offers a vast collection of historic routes across all grades, making it a favorite for novice leaders and elite climbers alike. Masterpieces like Sunset Crack, Valkyrie, and Three Pebble Slab define the climbing experience here. The approach is a pleasant fifteen-minute walk through birch woodland from the Haywood car park. Visitors should be mindful that high popularity leads to polished footholds on the lower-grade classics.
