About Purn Hill

Purn Hill is a small, sun-drenched limestone quarry situated on a hillside overlooking the Somerset Levels near Bleadon. The rock character consists of compact Carboniferous limestone featuring smooth quarried slab faces, crisp crimps, and small wire crack systems. Facing due south, the crag acts as a natural sun trap, drying exceptionally fast after rainfall and catching all available daylight. The climbing features a compact mix of bolted sport routes and traditional wall climbs from Severe to 7a, with Purn Wall serving as a popular local benchmark. The approach takes under five minutes up a short grassy trail from roadside laybys near Bleadon village. Excellent shelter and fast drying make it a great option during crisp, dry winter or spring days.
