About RAC & Sheep Pen Boulders

Two closely-linked bouldering venues on the north side of the Ogwen Valley, up on the moorland plateau above the A5 to the west of Idwal Cottage. The RAC Boulders (roughly 128 documented problems) are the friendlier of the two, stacked with easy classics in the Font 3–6B+ range on excellent rhyolite blocs — a great venue for an introductory Snowdonia bouldering session. Sheep Pen, a short walk further up onto the plateau, is a much smaller cluster but hosts hard testpieces up to Font 8A, most notably Pearls Before Swine. Both share the same compact patch of open mountainside with superb views back down the valley; 15 minutes' walk from roadside parking. Cool, dry conditions preferred — the rhyolite gets slick in warm sun.
