About Rumney Bonsai

Bonsai is one of Rumney's most reliable moderate sport crags — a south-facing schist wall with a base rimmed by tall pines that hold shade well into summer and catch your feet on the lower-off. The classic ticks are Masterpiece (5.10a), Peer Pressure (5.10d), Centerpiece (5.10d), and Social Outcast (5.12a); War and Peace (5.9+) is the beginner-friendly warm-up. Sits on the same Rattlesnake Mountain hillside as the Main Cliff and shares the same weather cell. Access from the small parking lot via the Shortcut Trail — up the stairs, under Venus Wall, then a boulder-strewn wash to the base. Bonsai continues upslope into Orange Crush. WMNF day-use fee applies; documented in Ward Smith's guidebook and Rakkup.
