About Rumney The Hinterlands

The Hinterlands is Rumney's most exposed and highest sport venue — a group of steep pumpy walls, slabs, technical faces and cracks tucked high on Rattlesnake Mountain at 351m. Once a well-kept secret, it now sees steady traffic and offers a full spread from 5.6 to 5.12c with significant single-pitch exposure — Jolt (5.10a) is a famously airy fin route 80 feet above the trail. The moderate ticks are Electric Socks (5.8+), Dolt (5.10a), and Jolt (5.10a); Nicky's Crack (5.11d) is a rare quality crack line and Giant Man (5.12b) is the premier hard slab. Rockfall hazard exists on unstable portions high above Jolt — take a helmet. Park at Buffalo Pit and take the trail past it, then follow signs at the fork toward Prudential or Northwest Territories to reach Dolt/Jolt. Shares Rumney's weather anchor with the Main Cliff.
