About Cherokee Rock Village (Sand Rock)
Cherokee Rock Village — universally known as "Sand Rock" — is a long-time Alabama climbing institution above Weiss Lake near Centre, AL. Free-standing sandstone pinnacles hold 238 climbs across trad, sport, bouldering and toprope, grades 5.5 to 5.13d, with short approaches from the parking loop. Managed as a county park with improved facilities: $7/car day-use, $18/night camping, bathhouse, on-site managers. Multiple aspects across the pinnacle field — the Sun Wall faces south. "Most of the sandstone at Sandrock is pretty bomber but it is still sandstone and holds do break and shouldn't be climbed on after a rain" — Cumberland sandstone wet-rock ethic applies.
