About Carn Barra

Carn Barra offers adventurous granite sea cliff climbing along the wild south coast of West Penwith. The rock is steep, crystalline, and exceptionally rough, featuring vertical crack lines, sweeping arêtes, and large juggy overhangs. Facing south, the cliffs catch all available daylight and dry quickly after rain, benefiting from open coastal weather. The crag caters heavily to competent trad climbers, featuring sustained middle and upper-grade routes, with Flashdance standing out as a premier regional testpiece. The approach demands a twenty-minute coastal hike from Porthgwarra along undulating cliff paths followed by a precise abseil descent. Tidal inundation cuts off low-level belay ledges around high water, requiring careful planning.
