Clach Maol is a hillside mica-schist crag located in the Central Highlands, offering clean, open wall climbing. The rock character consists of firm, crystalline schist with sharp edges, horizontal wiring cracks, and distinct corner grooves. Facing east, the cliff catches morning sunshine but moves into shade by afternoon, requiring a clear breeze to dry out after rain. Route selection is centered on mid-grade traditional climbing from Severe to E-grades, led by Clach Maol Groove. The approach demands a twenty-to-thirty minute uphill hike across moorland from roadside parking. Open hill exposure makes warm layers advisable when the sun leaves the face.
