About Eagle Crag (Borrowdale)

Eagle Crag dominates the confluence of Langstrath and Greenup Gill above Stonethwaite, a steep multi-tiered north-west-facing precipice of dark Borrowdale volcanic rock that has been at the historical heart of Lakes hard trad for over half a century. The shaded aspect and high crag structure mean routes hold water for days after rain, and the venue genuinely needs a settled dry spell to come into condition. The approach is a steep 45–60 minute walk from Stonethwaite following the Greenup path before cutting up to the base. Peregrines nest on the crag most seasons — the BMC restriction usually runs March to June.
