About Shepherd's Crag

Roadside crag above Derwentwater — one of the fastest-drying crags in Borrowdale ('if Keswick pavements are dry, Shepherd's will have something dry'). West-facing — best in afternoon/evening. Up to 50m. Great range of grades. Arguably the most famous and frequented valley cliff in the Lake District, with fine-grained Borrowdale volcanic rock giving intricate features, crisp edges, and firm holds. Access is exceptionally easy, taking under ten minutes along flat paths from the roadside parking or farm tea room. Classics include Little Chamonix (VD), Ardus (VS 4b) and Eve (VS 4c).
