About Edlingham Crag

Edlingham Crag is an attractive Fell Sandstone venue overlooking the historic Edlingham Church and castle ruins. The rock is solid and well-featured, offering sharp breaks, small roofs, and clean vertical crack lines. Facing south at low altitude, the crag functions as an effective sun trap, drying quickly after rain and offering warm climbing on clear winter days. The grade range is highly approachable, featuring an excellent selection of traditional climbs between Severe and E3. Highlight lines include Edlingham Wall (VS 4c), The Fly (E2 5c), and Castle View (HVS 5a). The approach takes under ten minutes from roadside parking near the village, crossing flat field paths. The single most important factor is maintaining good relations with local residents and farm owners by parking considerately near the road and leaving no trace of litter.
